This workshop will explore various approaches to working at the intersection of writing and photography. Using publication, exhibition, performance, ethnography and cinema as models, the workshop will propose an expanded sense of what constitutes the history and possibility of this hybrid territory.
The workshop will be organized around the following activities:
• Lectures and discussions of assigned primary reading/viewing materials
• Writing, editing, sequencing and image-making exercises (collaborative and independent)
• Individual meetings, group discussion and response to student project ideas
Specific lectures, discussions and activities may include:
An introduction to foundational examples in image-text work
A discussion of subject, subjectivity and voice in both writing and photography
Short exercises in form and structure, working from participants’ existing or found/archival material
Short exercises in observation and documentation
Short project and plan for extended/continuing work
Intended for: Professionals working in the fields of photography and visual arts.
Modality: Working sessions will take place in Centro de la Imagen, Plaza de la Ciudadela 2, Centro Histórico, 06000 Ciudad de México, CDMX.
Duration: 12 hours, February 2017, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 from 16:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00.
